Project A.R.T will visually explore a creative narrative in the form of a mythological parable. The story will be told in first person perspective through the eyes of a main character who embarks on a journey that investigates a conceptual world. The project will raise the issues of human attitudes to the environment which result in either the degradation or flourishing of our natural world. It will also address the importance of morals to a contemporary audience. We intend to generate interesting imagery by swapping the elements of the natural environment with the elements of the human body. The earth would be made of flesh and the people made of botanical and mineral materials. The intention of this swap is to draw attention to environmental issues by showing damage to a human form. With this we intend to disturb the viewer, causing them to think about the damage we cause and encourage them to imagine an equivalent damage to their own body. The nature of this story has been strongly influenced by the ones found in The Bible particularly the stories of Jesus. Similar influencing stories are found in modern video games such as Abe’s Oddysee and Strangers Wrath. Much like the story of Jesus, in both of these games a main character is chosen for an impossible task and he is only able to achieve the task by undergoing a major transformation which grants him a supernatural ability. However our story will take place in a world unlike any told in these stories. We will also focus more on styles and cultural elements that are unique to New Zealand. We have chosen this theme because we have a strong interest in the art of imaginative story telling. We wish to engage our viewers in a new story of hope for a better world.
